Show and Tell

Since last week's Show and Tell was about our wedding, I thought this week I should talk about our honeymoon. It was the most amazing trip I've ever taken. If you've never been to Bora Bora and/or Moorea, book a trip there. Now. You will not regret it.

I took the above photo at the Hotel Bora Bora. I highly recommend staying there. They offer amazing service and the most pristine beach I've ever seen.

While in both Bora Bora and Moorea, we stayed in over-water bungalows with our own deck and a ladder leading directly into the lagoon. We snorkeled with eels and other sea creatures, swam with dolphins, and went SCUBA diving with the biggest sharks I've ever seen.

I was so proud of SM, by the way. I pretty much forced him to get SCUBA certified before our trip. I told him, "There's no way I'm going to Tahiti and not SCUBA diving and I really don't want to separate on our honeymoon, but I will totally leave your butt on the beach if you don't do this." So, like a trooper, SM got PADI certified. (I was already a PADI-certified Rescue Diver, so at least I could save SM if something went terribly wrong.) ;)

SM's first "real" open water SCUBA dive took place in Moorea. As we dropped anchor and prepared to dive, several 12-foot lemon sharks started circling the boat. (Lemon sharks are among the more aggressive variety of sharks.) I could tell SM was a little nervous, but he played it cool.

As we descended to the bottom of the sea, the sharks followed us. Soon, the divemaster pulled out some chum and started feeding the sharks, who began rolling their eyes back in their heads and rushing at the divers. SM, not knowing any better, just sat there, clinging to a rock, as the sharks charged within about a foot of his face. I have a SCUBA shark-diving specialty and I knew enough to stay clear of the feeding frenzy. It wasn't until we were back in the boat that poor SM realized how potentially dangerous the situation had been. But, man, it was AWESOME!!

The rest of the trip was spent lounging on the beach and hunting for seashells. Below is a picture of me carrying my book around while I hunt for shells. Talk about multi-tasking, huh?

Best. Trip. Ever.

My second-favorite trip: Rome / Florence / Venice, Italy.

Five places I am dying to go: Ethiopia, Greece, Egypt, Alaska, Russia.

What's the best trip you've ever taken? Can you name five places you want to visit some day?

Thanks so much for visiting my Show n Tell.

Your pictures are beautiful and tell a meaningful story.

Perhaps my best trip was my second one to Korea. That or Costa Rica. I have hit most of Europe, but really want to go to Vienna, Prague, Athens and Arcadia plus maybe Santorini, more of Italy, Scandanavia, and Morocco. Egypt and Thailand would be nice, too. Wow, thanks for asking. Love to talk about travel.

My best trips were to

1) Scotland -- When I told DH that 3 years of trying had finally worked! :)

2) Bucksport ME, (I know, crazy!) But we had SO much fun just being silly and mini-golfing, hiking and eating lobster.

3) Bahrain (island in the persian gulf). DH was stationed there, and DS and I traveled over there twice to visit. While it was hot as.. You know where... It was also a great time!

And you should DEFINITELY go to Cold Stone! :) It is sooo good. mmmmmmmm I may need a 10 minute cold cure this evening!

What a wonderful honeymoon! DH and I did not have one. We took a trip to Tobago (for a very QUIET vacation) a few years after we married.
Our favorite vacation was our trip to Europe which included Germany, France, Switzerland & Italy. We loved it!
We would like to go to China (haha), Ireland, Greece, Belgium and Australia.

Those pics are absolutely gorgeous!! We talked about Tahiti for our honeymoon, but couldn't quite afford it so we settled for a cruise instead. One day though, we'll get there!

My favorite vacation spot: Labadee, Haiti. Our family was on a cruise and it was a stop we made. Beautiful! I would live there if they would let me.

My five places to visit: Ireland, Japan, India, Hawaii, and Vietnam (I've always wanted to adopt from there)

Although I gotta say, I've never been scuba diving, and your description of the sharks doesn't make it any more likely that I'll go any time soon!

Hi DC - Thanks for the add! Im honored and I dont mind at all. Hopefully the new category will grow with lots of other success stories, be it ivf or adoption. I think its a great idea.

Thanks DC - I totally thought of you when my friend told me she'd been diagnosed with lupus. I feel like such an assholio for not being around for her lately.
And you should totally make the cake - it was super easy and amaaaazingly delicious. Just use boxed white cake, poke holes, pour over the milk mixture, let it cool, pour whipped cream all over it...mmmm. It might give you diabetes though.

OMG...those pics are so gorgeous...they don't even look real!!!

Ok - love the beach, love water sports, love snorkelling - but sharks petrify me!!! That I would have to pass on. But all the rest of it sounds amazing!!

My favorite trip was the summer after college before law school when I went to Israel - absolutely amazing!

Stunning photos!

I guess Tahiti and environs are now at the top of my list.

Let's see: best trip I've ever taken would be Hawaii with my entire family. Or, Disneyland. My best trips have been with my family. I went to Italy (Milan) in October (for work) and it was fine - but it wasn't awesome because the people I love weren't there.

Where do I want to go?
Italy (with family)
Anyplace with a nice beach?

Man, I certainly don't think big do I?

Anyway, from your post two days ago - you should create your own superhero at: I'm not endorsing or selling anything there. I just created a superhero there a long time ago and it was quite fun and theraputic.

Ohhh fantastic photos. My favourite place in the whole world is Sharm el Sheikh. Prior to the arrival of my DS I used to go twice a year for the diving. I'm PADI Rescue (& Nitrox) qualified. We need to get together LOL!
I dived the Molokini Crater in Hawaii in November. Not a patch on Egypt but we had a couple of humpback whales watching us the entire dive!

Wow - looks like an incredible place. I commend you (and your husband) on your bravery with the sharks. One of those life time experiences that stay with you forever. I've just discovered your blog and I wish you luck with everything. And I agree with your destination choices - I love Italy - lived there for three years, but have also been to Egypt and Greece - you won't be disappointed!

Gorgeous (and scary) shots! We took a 10 day small boat cruise through the Tahitian islands. That definitely ranks at the top of the list for all the reasons you list and more. I've been fortunate to visit a number of places for work and family reasons.

Five places I've never been but would like to see in no particular order: Greece, Prague, Brazil, Iceland, New Zealand.

Best trip I have ever taken would have to be my honeymoon. It was not nearly as exotic as some but I had the best time getting to know the man (that would soon become the bain of my existence-hehe) that I would be spending the rest of my life with and it was awesome.

5 places I would like to visit:
Australia - Greece - Venice - Paris - Grand Canyon (had to keep one domestic one)

oh and one more thing - I think you are all crazy - I do not now and will not ever want to swim with sharks. but the pics were nice :)
