Barf-freakin'-tastic!

That pretty much describes how I feel: barf-freakin'-tastic (which is very similar to fan-freakin'-tastic, but with . . . um . . . more vomit involved). This whole PUPO thing is not all it's cracked up to be! I mean, I would be more than happy to endure all manner of nausea and discomfort if I were, indeed, actually pregnant. Chances are, however, that my churning stomach is nothing more than a reaction to the massive quantities of hormones I am putting into various bodily orifices in a pathetic attempt to achieve and maintain a viable pregnancy. Grrr.

I know I've been very quiet the last few days. The primary reason for my lack of posting / commenting is that, when I look at the computer screen for an extended period of time, I get so nauseous that I actually throw up a little in my mouth. Also, my mother is in town visiting, so I'm trying to spend lots of quality time with her (when I'm not busy barfing, that is).

I owe Kara a Pierce Brosnan story and I promise to post it soon. But not today. Must go puke. Ugh.

Any ideas to help with the nausea?? Help??

Mint tea. Ginger tea. Flat ginger ale. A mint candy or a ginger altoid. Eat every two hours, a protein and a complex carb. A whole wheat cracker with cheese, tuna on toast, dried fruit and nuts. You get the picture. Some women have good sucess with the anti sea sickness bracelets they sell.

Hang in there. Still crossing fingers for a sticky baby.

I know it sounds weird but my doc recommended smelling a lemon when the nausea kicked in. The clean scent actually did help settle my stomach a little. Good luck!! I've been sending positive thoughts your way!!

sorry you feel so yucky!

I'm echoing the others: mint tea, ginger ale or fresh ginger in tea, whole grain crackers, and lemon in water.

good luck!

I second the ginger ale and ginger tea. Also, can you get "Sea Bands"? We buy them in pharmacies here. The are knitted elastic bands that have a pressure button that sits against an accupressure point on your wrist. They are designed to help with seasickness but I have used them successfully for migraine and general nausea.

Here's a link :
http://www.sea-band.co.uk/
and my googling showed that you can buy them at Walgreens.

I hope you're feeling better today!!

I love Pierce Brosnan!! I'll wait.

I'm used to waiting.

Sending you some sticky vibes and hugs!

I am jumping on board with Mrs. Spit and Robyn. Ginger Ale with a complex carb and protein....personally I could not do the tuna....but if you can great!

The sea bands......I used them...yes, they looked rediculous, but they worked...especially if you are at home....wear them! I believe you can get them at any drugstore.

Enjoy your visit with your Mom :)

Ginger tea has been working okay for me, as well as eating frequently, but not very much. It's also surprised me that cheese has helped settle my stomach, whereas crackers haven't been so good. Also potato chips helped! I think it was the salt.

I'm sorry you feel so yucky, and hope it's a good sign!

Regarding nausea, flat 7up usually works for me, or just 7 up in general. I've tried Sprite and it doesnt work, must be 7 up.

I cannot WAIT for the Bond Brosnon story.... Seriously. Can you call me? Just kidding :-)

I hope your visit with your mom is nice and I'am sending good vibes your way- chat soon.

When I had pregnancy nausea, the only thing that helped (and it took me 7 months to figure it out) was going to the chiropractor.

Otherwise, all I can recommend is oatmeal. It's really easy on the stomach, and if you do Barf, it's not too harsh coming up.

With this last transfer, I had the stomach cooties for the two days after my transfer. Not fun. The other ladies already gave you every suggestion I would have. I hope something works for you. Unless this really IS early m/s, in which case I hope you stay nauseous for the next nine or so weeks. :)

I have no advice on the nausea, but I hope it subsides. I'll be thinking about you!

I hope that it isn't the many hormones you are injecting into your body and instead is indeed a sign of a successful transfer.

Well barfing just sucks- it sucks less when it is for sure because of pregnancy though.

Hang in there, hope you feel better soon. You should talk to your doc about a Rx for it.

I'll have to try the lemon thing that MSL mentioned next time I have a bout of nausea.

Oh I hope your nausea goes aways soon, and that things are going well. Stick little embryos stick!

Barfing is a really good sign!! A really nasty, annoying sign, but a good sign none the less!

Yuck...I am sorry you feel so bad. I hear that peppermint helps and so does laying on the right side instead of the left!

Sorry you are so sick.. does not sound like much fun. Good news that your mama is in town though... Mama's make things better.

Well I hope this is good sign sickness! I can only echo what the other ladies have said - fresh ginger steeped in hot water really helps!

Ginger anything - ginger snaps, ginger ale, ginger candy, ginger tea. I get nauseated a lot and ginger can usually take the edge off...

The only thing to ever help me nausea is to actually barf. I guess that's not very helpful is it?

I've missed you on the internets. Hope you are having a nice visit with your mom.

So sorry about the nausea, but I hope it is a good sign of things to come.

Fresh air and carbonation always seem to help me.

Hang in there and enjoy your time with your mom (in between the barfing). (:

Gingerale and vitamin B6 helps me. Good luck, nausea stinks.

Hey DC!

Sea Bands - definitely. They saved me when I was pregnant with our twins. And saved folks in public from being barfed on. Also, those new Preggo Pops (can be found at Babies R Us or ordered online) have been getting good reviews. Give those a shot.

May the force (of not puking) be with you!

2ww's suck the big one as it is....Atleast you have your mom in town. That should make it go a little faster...keeping your mind on something else. Or not?

I've been checking your blog every day since I found out your were PUPO. Your blog speaks to me for various reasons. Glad to see your next post, even if its only to tell how nauseous you've been feeling.

Other than the typical carbs or something salty with some ginger ale, I'll second what another reader said about smelling a lemon. When I worked in Washington DC, I worked with a population of families who were by and large from various parts of Africa. Two families from Ethiopia separately told me to smell lemons to help with my nausea. Since my niece is Pacey Lomi (Lomi meaning "lemon" in Amharic and "lovely one" in Oromic...I just think you can't go wrong smelling a little lemon.

Keep your chin up!

Hey - was thinking about you and wanted to stop by to check in. . .Ginger scented anything from Origins was my pregnancy saver when I felt like I was queasy! Nausea is a good thing though. . .

Hope you are feeling better soon. Nausea is maddening, and it always kind of scares me and freaks me out.

I noticed the combo of estrogen pills and Prednisone sent me into a crazy pukey-feeling tizzy every single day right around lunchtime. Weird.

Now what's this about my boyfriend Pierce Brosnan?

Unknown said...

I don't know what to recommend. I found the only water I could stomach was fizzy water, very cold, and sometimes a little lime helped. Also any dry biscuits.

And congratulations on being PUPO!

Anonymous said...

WOW - I have been through the PUPO thing three times now and have NEVER barfed. I really, really, hope that it is a good sign!!!

O.k., your feeling barf-freakin'-tastic isn't funny.

But I LOVE the term "various bodily orifices." That sounds like something I would say.

And I hope you feel better. And that reading this comment doesn't make you throw up in your mouth. You poor dear! :(

Oh, I sure hope this is a good sign of things to come!

Ask your doc about Benadryl for the nausea. Yes, it'll make you sleepy, but you'll wake up feeling sooo much better.

Anonymous said...

Sorry about the nausea that really sucks! I hope it's a good sign though!

Clever Trevor said...

Congrats on your PUPO status.

I suffered from nausea on both of my 2WW, and the clinic advised me that it was due to the amount of Progesterone I was consuming 'in various orifices' like you stated.

Nothing really worked for me - it all went away at about 16 weeks PG, so I'm keeping everything crossed for you that your nausea lasts a lot longer honey.

Unknown said...

I think it's a good sign. The only thing that worked for me was tea. Best of luck!

Hi!
I found your blog through the grapevine, and I love it. You have been through a lot, and I am so hoping to see great news soon. Our son came home from Ethiopia in September and baby sis is due in 4 weeks. Doing both is so much fun, and I wish you all the luck in the world!

Ginger root and sea sickness bracelets. Also there are these lollipops that I think were called Preggie Pops? Those helped me.

Fingers and toes crossed that you are having honest to goodness, real deal morning sickness!

Ice cubes. Milk. Scrambled eggs. (i.e. protein), Accupressure wrist bands (Sea Bands or PSI brand..I faithfully swore by these but it could be a fluke..they helped me though). Ginger gum. Minute Maid frozen lemonade in lemon and limonada flavors (in freezer section). watermelon. BLT. These are some things that helped me some of the time. I'm hoping and praying for you!

When I didn't have time to make ginger tea, I'd eat candied ginger.

I was hurt and heart broken when a very big problem occurred in my marriage seven months ago, between me and my wife . so terrible that she took the case to court to file a divorce. She said that she cannot continue to stay with me again, and she said "I don't love you anymore" So she took her things out of the house and made me and my children passed through several emotional pain. I tried all my possible means to get her back, after much begging, but all to no avail.and she confirmed it that she has made her decision, and she never wanted to see me again. So one evening,as i was coming back from work,i meant an old friend of mine who asked of my wife .So i explained every thing to him, so he told me that the only way i can get my wife back, is to visit a prophet to know what is really behind this issue, because it has really worked for other people too. So i never believed in spell, but i had no other choice than to follow his advice. Then he gave me the Email address of the prophet. prophetehiagwina@gmai l.com. So the next morning, i sent a mail to the address he gave to me, and the prophet respond the following day and assured me that i will get my wife back the next day. Hopefully I believed since my friend recommended me to him, ,so we discussed and told me everything that i need to do. Then the next morning, So surprisingly, my wife who didn't call me for the past 7 months, gave me a call to inform me that she was coming back. So Amazing!! So that was how she came back that same day ,with lots of love and joy, and she apologized on her mistake ,and for the pain she caused me and my children. Then from that day ,our relationship was now stronger than how it were before ,by the help of a prophet . So, i will advice you out there if you have any problem contact PROPHET EHIAGWINA, i give you 100% guarantee that he will help you..
